Denoise now in Lightroom for iPad!!

Okay, McDonald. take a breath!

I’d heard The rumours, but you can’t believe anything these days without seeing it.

I’ve always preferred working on iPad for processing. I don’t need a huge screen and making masks with a stylus/pencil is so intuitive. So, Denoise would be a very welcomed addition.

iPad is wonderful for Processing while travelling, but for our latest travels to Lisbon, The Algarve, and Paris, I switched it out for my laptop simply because the iPad lacked Denoise. This was also factor in Costa Rica where I knew I would be using high ISOs in the forests.

But no longer!

I opened my iPad to import some photos this morning and — voilà — there it was.

It took a minute or so while “preparing for first time use”. The actual Denoise was estimated at 8 sec for the 20 MP image, but it took about 25 seconds. I’m using a 4th Gen 11” iPad Pro; no doubt it will be faster on a newer iPad.

Bottom line, though — it’s there and it works. Just like the Desktop version.

All of this to say, we’re almost there. While almost as complete as the Desktop version, it’s still missing three key processing functions: Merge to HDR, Merge to Panorama, and Focus Stack.

But adding Denoise shows hope. The Adobe engineers have figured out how to do these processor-intensive functions on a slightly processor-limited iPad.

Maybe now they can finally catch up to Affinity Photo which has had Merge to HDR, Merge to Panorama and Focus Stacking on iPad for years!

Come on, Adobe — you can do it!!
